Safety and Organizational Policies: Prospective users of the Orkusetur and Verkstęši are required to contact the staff prior to use to receive an orientation briefing and learn the safety and organizational policies, essential features listed below. With the many users of the facilities, it is imperative that a safe and well ordered workplace be maintained. Use of the facility must be scheduled to avoid conflict with other classes or projects.

1.      Text Box:  Space use must be arranged by the responsible instructor with the Lab Manager (for Orkusetur: Indriši Rķkharšsson, ind@ru.is)

 

2.      No food, drink, or smoking.

 

3.      Text Box:  Use safety glasses when working with pressurized gases (compressed air, steam), chemicals, or high-speed machinery.

 

4.      No sandals or open toed shoes.

 

5.      If a significant injury or other incident occurs, the first response should be to contact (112) who will dispatch emergency medical personnel.

6.      Leave lab space in a condition that is as good or better than you found it. In particular clean all metal chips, sawdust, and other debris from the area and return all tools and supplies to their proper location.

 

7.      Text Box:  For access to the Machine Shop and use of tools, refer to separate qualification and regulations for that area.

 

8.      Before operating equipment for the first time, have the manager inspect your setup to ensure it is safe and will not impact other projects around it.

Sanctions

Violations of policies will be handled at the judgment of the lab manager or instructor of the course. This could include loss of access privileges, or permanent expulsion from the work areas.
